Nate has been a loyal captain with Sonic for the last 8 years. He drives all of the boats in our fleet and has grown quite the fan club over the years! He was born in Nova Scotia, Canada but considers himself to be from Connecticut as that’s where he was raised. Nate has been living on St. Thomas for 12 years and has been a boat captain for 9 years. He grew up with a sailing background and a love for all outdoor activities. Hobbies include travel, hiking, swimming, sailing and windsurfing.
Gus has been with us for the last 7 years with a brief hiatus he took to work on a yacht. Gus also drives all of the boats in our fleet and has people asking for him each time they come back. He was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, the yachting capital of the world. He spent much of his childhood in Bimini, Bahamas with his grandparents learning how to fish, dive, and navigate small boats through the local waters. He has always had a connection with the sea and was an avid sailor and boater all throughout his teenage years. When he graduated boarding school in 2000 he went to sea working for the Seafarers International Union (SIU) as an Ordinary Seaman on ocean going ships. After several years of hard work and great experiences in the SIU he started working on sport fishing boats and yachts in South Florida cruising through the Bahamas, Florida, Gulf of Mexico, Central and South America, Patagonia, and eventually the Caribbean, which he never left. Gus has worked on boats, yachts, and ships for 22 years and has logged over 20,000 nautical miles at sea; he holds a US Coast Guard 200 Ton Master License. He has spent the last 14 years on the beautiful waters of the USVI, BVI, and Spanish Virgin Islands.
Pat was born and raised in northwest Ohio and developed a love for the water at a young age fishing with his Father and family throughout Ohio and Michigan on the Great Lakes and local rivers.
He moved to the low country of South Carolina after college where his love for the water only grew with surfing, saltwater fishing and generally living in a coastal town that instilled a waterman’s way of life.
Migrating to the Virgin Islands in 2010 to work for the Marriott, it didn’t take long for Pat to realize that he wanted to pursue a career on the water, earning his captains license and shifting to working full time in the marine industry since. Pat has been with Sonic since 2014 and has a loyal following of guests.
Louise, aka “Weezie” has been part of our team for 3 years. For the first two years she worked as the full time first mate on our big boats while training to be a captain and last year, she became a full time captain and is loving her new role and wowing her guests daily!
Originally from central Pennsylvania, Louise left the farm fields to live the life of a parrot head, surround by the Caribbean Sea. She’s been using the Virgin Islands as her home base for fourteen years, living on board yachts for eight of those years. She has spent time sailing up and down the Caribbean island chain, delivering boats across the Atlantic and several seasons cheffing on yachts throughout the Mediterranean. Outdoor activities are her jam!
