Vogue Magazine is hardly known for downmarket recommendations, which is why we were pleased to see our fair island featured in a recent piece about the “best winter vacation escapes” of 2016.
Highlighting local alternatives to exorbitant destinations, the piece covers some of the finest local destinations in our hemisphere, including this lovely description:
If you aren’t looking to see and be seen while on vacation this time around, but still want stunning beaches and sunshine, try St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands (a short ferry ride from the main airport on St. Thomas) this year. We suggest spending plenty of time in Coral Bay on the eastern side of the island, which is more laid-back and less commercial. A few days here and you’ll forget what snow even feels like.
The only thing we’d add is that you should spend a day or two on St. Thomas before you make that leap: every island in the USVI has something special for snowbirds year-round.
Rent a boat on St. Thomas and you can see the full region at your own pace. Contact the rental boat pros at Sonic Charters to set your timetable today.
