We talk about renting boats a lot in this space, because that’s what we do, and we’re good at it, but this story is just too enjoyable not to share.

The St. John Festival celebrates the many cultural and natural gifts that make life in the Virgin islands such a pleasure. This year’s festival included some showstopping numbers from young people eager to share their talents alongside the celebration’s cuisine and music:

The parade isn’t just for adults. Many children take part in the festivities as well. In their traditional madras costumes, the adorable Hibiscus Cultural Dancers were eager to show off their stilt-walking skills. The group, under the direction of Ivy Moses, comprises junior jumbies ages 3 to 10. They performed a traditional quadrille dance on stilts for the enchanted audience.

“This is a new twist that hasn’t been seen before,” explained volunteer Adele Thomas. “We’re keeping it cultural and the kids love it. They’ve been practicing for months. It’s hard to deal with kids that young, but Ms. Moses took a risk and it was totally worth it.”

It’s easy to forget sometimes that the USVI offer a wealth of cultural beauty alongside all that natural splendor. To see it all and enjoy a few underwater views in the bargain, please contact the rental boat experts at Sonic Charters today.
